SMART Goals

This year the middle school will be setting SMART goals in class. They will have SMART goals in reading and in math. SMART goals help us educators test the effectiveness of our instructional process and our programs.Goals are part of every aspect of life and provide a sense of direction, motivation, a clear focus, and clarify importance. By setting goals, the students will be  providing thereself with a target to aim for. A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Therefore, a SMART goal incorporates all of these criteria to help focus your efforts and increase the chances of achieving that goal.

A smart goal has 5 steps:

S- specific- the students will know exactly what they want to accomplish.

M- measureable- the students can tell you exactly how they have met their goal.

A- attainable- Can the students reach their goal in the specified time frame.

R- relevant- the students understand the goal is important for the current standard.

T- timely- students will pick an appropriate time to meet their goal.
